Introduction

The fibrous microsctructure of a glass ceramic along with photographs of the same ceramic undergoing testing and in use in a restoration.

The Dental Advice Research and Technology Service (D.A.R.T.S) was formed in 1988 as a University of Sheffield Advisory and Consultancy Service. It is situated within the Department of Adult Dental Care at the School of Clinical Dentistry and has at its disposal technical, clinical, materials and biomaterials science personnel within the Dental School and University.

This places the range of scientific, technical and clinical resources of a University Dental School at the disposal of manufacturing industry and technical and clinical dentistry. When the Universities unrivalled metallurgical, ceramic and polymer science resources are added the resulting expertise provide D.A.R.T.S with in-depth research development capabilities which are unique in the United Kingdom.
